Afonso's session was special because it was one of the sessions that we couldn't do in the first 15 days of his life. He was born in the middle of the confinement period, Covid had just arrived in our lives. "Stupid Covid" as my son says.
And naturally, neither the parents were prepared to take a baby out of the house, nor were we prepared to welcome newborns into our studio, and therefore it was a time when several newborn sessions were postponed. Afonso's was one of them.
This session was especially special because it turned into a typical newborn photo session, with a 3-month-old baby weighing almost 6kg. Yes, you are reading well.
Afonso, although rare at this age, still had a very pronounced moro reflex, a situation that, combined with the fact that he was undressed, made him quite uncomfortable at the beginning of his session. It took a while for me to come to this conclusion, as it is actually not common at this age for this reflex to still be so present, but the truth is that after having enjoyed the most irresistible pouts I have been able to photograph to date, and realizing that Something was making him upset, he told his parents he would try something. And so I did.
The wrap technique is often used on newborn babies, and a Photo Shoot of a 3 month old baby could go very well or very badly. It could relax you and put you to sleep almost instantly, or it could make you extremely uncomfortable due to the tightness and heat, and therefore make you even more irritable. Fortunately, it went well and the first hypothesis was the winner. Afonso fell into a wonderful sleep that allowed me to continue with the session, only waking up when we took off his wrap to put him on for family photos.
After a beautiful nap we took the most delicious photos with our eyes wide open!
Who can remain indifferent?
